Next, open up your control panel. Are there any programs there that you don't use? For example, things that have been downloaded from the Internet such as games or toolbars that nobody has touched for awhile. Also, if you have any old software that is still installed and no longer serves a function, such as the software for a printer or scanner that you no longer have, you should uninstall it. That will free up even more space and will make that little progress bar start moving a little faster.

If so, you should be sure to run them on a regular basis. Anti-virus programs should be run at least once a week, particularly if you spend a lot of time online. Anti-spy ware programs must be run at least every couple of weeks. You should also be using a pup-up blocker when you are online.
If your computer is still slow, you want to consider defragging it. When files are saved to your hard disk, the computer sometimes fragments them, putting various parts of the files in different places. After a while this creates a bit of a mess and slows down the computer as it has to run all over the place looking for all the parts of a file in order to open it up. When you defrag a computer, you are essentially collecting all of the parts and putting them into one location so your PC doesn't get stressed out!
